Sanger to host First Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony

The Sanger Lions Club, in collaboration with Lake Ray Roberts Area Elk’s Lodge 2862 and the American Legion Post 268 of Sanger, proudly announces the First Annual Sanger Flag Retirement Ceremony. This inaugural event will take place on June 14th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Veterans Memorial in Sanger Square Park.

This ceremony honors the American flag and those who have served our country. Community members can sponsor a retired flag in honor or memory of a loved one, armed forces member, or first responder. Additionally, the Yard/Park Sign Program allows individuals to commemorate their loved ones with signs displayed at the Veterans Memorial on significant dates: July 4th, Veterans Day 2024, Memorial Day 2025, and Flag Day 2025.

The event will honor the 17 Sanger men who made the ultimate sacrifice for our community and country. The ceremony will include patriotic activities, such as painting the American flag, hosted by STARS Paint Party Studios. Participants are encouraged to sign up early as space is limited.

Local Sanger Girl Scout Charli Davis, who is working towards earning her Gold Award, has set up temporary American Flag Retirement Collection Boxes at the Sanger Police and Fire Departments and the Sanger Chamber of Commerce office. Davis’s Gold Award project is to design and build metal or wood collection boxes that will have a permanent home in Sanger. Residents are encouraged to drop off their old flags in these temporary boxes or bring them to the ceremony.
