SHS cross country teams advance to State

District 9-4A proved to be  salty,  with the top two teams from the district finishing first and second at the Class 4A Regional Cross Country Meet at Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake last week.  Gainesville won the boys division, with Sanger as the runner-up and Celina won the girls division, with the Lady Indians finishing second.  All four teams will represent the district at the State Meet on November 1-2 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.

Sophomore Daniel Martinez led the SHS boys, earning a bronze medal, out of 164 competitors, with a time of 16:24.16 on the 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) course.

Freshman Niki Boone led the Lady Indians against 159 runners with a top-ten finish (8th place), posting a time of 12:02.56 on the 2-mile course.
